CHARLOTTE … The board of the Dilworth Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry voted this month to re-elect its five-person executive board. Additionally, the board recently added Melyssa Fleming to the board as a new member.
Active with the Dilworth Soup Kitchen & Pantry for several years, Fleming has increased her volunteer and operational responsibilities, including ordering fresh food for the soup kitchen. She is also very active with Brandt House, which provides home ownership opportunities for low-income families working toward financial independence.
“We are excited about Melyssa’s background and contributions to the soup kitchen,” said Tom Fedell, board chairman. “I also want to do a shout out to our entire volunteer team. We get along so well together, committed to helping the poor and hungry in our community.
“It is a privilege to work with such a dedicated group of volunteers and supporters throughout the community,” Fedell added.
The other members of the executive board members are Gary Klasen, vice chairman; Nelson Haynes, treasurer; Anne Gildea, secretary; and Rosemary Harris, operations. Also on the board are Tanarge Clegg, Paul Finnen, Melyssa Fleming, Jane Haynes, Jolin McElroy, Suzanne Sigmon and Gregg Sumrow.
The non-profit Dilworth Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry provides hot, nutritious lunches and groceries every Monday and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon for up to 200 guests from throughout Charlotte. Additional fresh food bags of meat, vegetables, fruit and dairy are provided to our guests every Friday. The food pantry also provides fresh food and non- perishables on the first and third Wednesday of each month to registered guests.
Located at the First Christian Church, 1200 East Blvd., the soup Kitchen has no paid staff and relies on the support of our volunteers, the community and local businesses and individuals.
