2023 Annual Appeal Letter

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It is heartbreaking to think that more than 165,000 of our neighbors lack regular access to healthy food and go to bed hungry. During May 2023, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), implemented during Covid expired, thus reducing benefits to many of our guests by 33% each month which equates to $95 less per month per person. Families often must choose between paying rent or buying food.

To meet this growing food insecurity crisis, we have expanded our services to include a food pantry where our guests can select non-perishable foods and fresh groceries to help get them through the week. Dilworth Soup Kitchen is not only providing 400+ lunches weekly but our volunteers are delivering more and more lunches to those in need in senior housing apartments and CMS students through Mindful Missions. We continue to help several local Afghan and Ukrainian families who were forced to flee their countries.

This year we will provide more than 21,000 healthy lunches and distribute over 20,000 pounds of fresh groceries and 46,000 pounds of non-perishable foods. This has all been made possible by the generosity of our donors, community partners, and an all-volunteer team that keeps our operation running, week after week. The local business community has shown an interest in supporting our efforts and, as a result, we have added a Corporate Volunteer Program.

As a non-profit organization with no paid staff and no regular source of funding, we rely entirely on the support of friends and neighbors like you to meet the ever-increasing demand. Any contribution you can make will have an incredible impact as 100% of the proceeds go directly toward feeding the hungry in our community. Your tax-deductible contribution can be made online at
